About Our Service

Gemm Learning provides computer-based reading and learning services to students working from home throughout US and Canada, and at learning centers in Westchester, NY and Greenwich, CT. We monitor your progress at home through daily using Internet uploads, keep in touch by phone and email and send weekly reports that measure progress.

Our program is for K-12 children and adults. Students are with us for 3-8 months, working at least 30 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week, depending on their academic starting point and their goals.

Our primary cognitive programs are Fast ForWord software -- for reading, auditory processing and language based learning issues, and the BrainWare Safari program for focus, organization, visual processing and retention issues.

The Start

The best way to get started with Gemm is to complete this on-line screening test.  If your child is a candidate for our services, we develop a program protocol and assign a program manager who will be your partner in the journey.

Your First Session

We send a starter kit to help you prepare for your first session.   At the same time, your personal Gemm coach develops and sends you the individualized protocol plan for your child.

To get started you simply open our software and click on your child's name. At the end of each session the work automatically uploads to our server.   Gemm will be in touch freqeuntly at the start to make sure you are comfortable.  You will also receive a sign-up confirmation from Gemm City, our Rewards City.

More about our Rewards

Establish a Routine

Each day our program provides exercises based on the prior day's progress. Protocols are generally 30 minutes a day for a minimum of 50 days, although most students stay longer. Your personal Gemm coach is monitoring progress remotely and will be in touch regularly when and if changes are required.

You will receive weekly summary updates on progress by email.

Making it fun and motivating. In addition to the engaging software there are prizes!  Daily points accumulate at our online prize and activities website, Gemm City. Children choose from hundreds of real and virtual prizes. They can use their well-earned points to adopt a polar bear, buy some cool stuff for their virtual room, buy a toy or a CD, and lots more. We also send certificates to recognize progress.

Course Progression:

First, build a secure cognitive foundation

Your first program gets right to work on the cognitive issues impeding your child's progress.   Most often students start with Fast ForWord Language v2 or Literacy, a powerful adaptive program that identifies and exercises cognitive weaknesses. Your child might then progress to the next program in the Fast ForWord series or move to BrainWare Safari which works on cognitive skills such as memory, attention and visual processing.
More on cognitive skills

Then reading and/or math instruction

Once underlying cognitive skills have been strengthened, most students turn their attention to our reading or math programs. The early programs in this series work on reading fluency and spelling, middle programs build reading comprehension, while the later programs work on higher level critical reading and thinking skills.

Progress in these programs is only possible though because of the cognitive gains made in first stage of our service.

Completion and Follow Up

Program length depends on the child's age (younger ones take longer), your child's starting point and your goals. The good news on follow up is that for your child there is none!  Once your child is functioning at natural language speed and is decoding naturally, these skills are used every day and so they endure.
