K-12 Learning Services:

How We Can Help

Are any of these your K-12 child?

  • Homework is a battle?
  • Reading difficulties?
  • Drifts off in class?
  • Disappointing test results, including SAT, even after traditional NY or CT SAT prep?

For the struggling student, our goal is to build cognitive skills by targeting the glitches that may be impeding reading and learning.  While most of our students are with-in a grade or two of grade-level we also provide NY and CT dyslexia help and Asperger's help for more difficult cases.

For the grade-level student, our goal is to make performing at an above average level a lasting reality with a customized package of NY and CT reading help and learning intervention programs.

While IQ does not change, most graduates of our New York or Connecticut learning center will score higher on IQ tests due to their improved processing and test taking skills. Trial results have demonstrated that this is not a one-time boost, but rather a new trend that will endure.

For the child who is struggling to build math fact fluency, we have a FASTT Math program that combines the learning-skill power of Fast ForWord (develops critical sequencing, working memory and attention skills) with the adaptive power of the math fact program, FASTT Math.  More here.

Who We Can Help: typical students:

K to 4th grader, slow start to reading
Most struggling early readers have a phonics (or decoding) problem because they do not hear the phonemes -- the tiny fragments of sound that make words - accurately. It is difficult to attach the right letters to the sounds. Fast ForWord helps fluency, by making decoding more natural by improving this listening accuracy -- auditory processing. This builds automaticity. It also reduces the chance of a reading comprehension problem in later grades. We've witnessed great gains using Fast ForWord for Westchester and Greenwich dyslexia help.

3rd to 12th grader, slow reader
Children read slowly primarily because they are either slow decoders (their sounding out is not automatic) or they constantly need to re-read the text (working memory or attention stamina issues). Fast ForWord has seven different exercises in it, each of which attacks each of these weaknesses from different angles.

3rd to 12th grader, reading comprehension
Two primary sources of reading comprehension issues are: (1) mechanical decoding that is taking up brain capacity that should be available for comprehension, and/or (2) weak working memory where the students finds it hard to take in and retain the information. Attention stamina is often an issue also in both these cases. Fast ForWord isolates and targets these issues. Fast ForWord software is an integral part of the Connecticut reading help we offer at our Fairfield County center.

Difficulty following directions.
For these children, we are all talking at 50 miles per hour, while the child may be listening at 40 miles per hour. Fast ForWord helps children process at natural language speed. They will be able to better follow directions, they will start using more sophisticated language and it will help their reading. These changes almost always lead to a boost in confidence as fast processing slows the world down, making it more manageable.
