Gemm Named #1 Provider of Fast ForWord software
BRAIN CHANGE THEORY IS REALITY IN WESTCHESTER
Gemm rides brain change awareness wave;
named #1 provider of neuroscience software in the US;
results challenge traditional learning center model
Pelham, January 15, 2008. The fact that the brain is malleable, that brain development continues through life is becoming common knowledge. Neuroscientists are now a hot commodity as their science moves from theory to practical application.
And it seems Westchester parents are paying attention. Gemm Learning, which opened in June 2006 -- based on the idea that advances in neuroscience now make it possible to target the cause of learning issues, not the symptoms – has grown quickly. In 2007 it was named the #1 service provider in the United States of Fast ForWord software, a product that has helped a million children with reading and learning issues nationwide. “Westchester parents are highly educated” said founder, Geoff Nixon. “They understand the implications of brain plasticity and how Westchester dyslexia help in this non-traditional tutoring format could really benefit their children.”
“The potential for programs like ours to short-circuit the hours of extra reading help for a struggling student is very appealing” said Nicole Amato, the Pelham Center Director, a sentiment also not lost on educators and medical professionals who have begun referring children to Gemm.
“Functional MRI’s that take pictures of the brain as it works make it possible to test the efficacy of new therapies” said Mr. Nixon. “This should hasten the development of new approaches. My guess is that twenty years from now learning centers will not be the mass-tutoring centers of today, but rather learn-to-learn brain-change centers like ours.”
Gemm is the nation’s largest service provider of Fast ForWord, software that helps K-12 children build the cognitive skills needed for reading and learning success. It provides Fast ForWord software as a service, at home and at one of its centers. Gemm Learning, formerly Westchester Learning, changed its name to reflect an expanding network of centers and product offerings.
