In elementary school, your child makes the transition from learning to read to reading to learn. Because learning skills develop sequentially, time lost learning to read in elementary school will dampen academic outcomes later on.

Our program works directly on the impediments to reading fluency and reading comprehension, in an individualized and adaptive program that strengthens fundamental cognitive skills and fills in the gaps in your child's reading make-up.

Phonics and Phonemic Awareness
Many younger elementary children do not have the auditory processing skills required to hear the sounds inside words. This makes it very difficult to learn to sound words out. Gemm uses Fast ForWord software to build a secure cognitive foundation.

Reading Fluency
Reading comprehension requires an effortless, automatic, fluent reading style. If decoding is not automatic it draws on brain power that is required for comprehension. Gemm builds reading fluency by strengthening the links between language and text, with an individualized program designed to meet your child's specific needs.

Reading Comprehension
By 4th grade literal reading comprehension is a required skill that only gets more challenging in 5th grade and beyond. Gemm has a grade level appropriate reading program that comes after the cognitive and fluency stages.

Our Service

After an initial assessment, Gemm will develop an individualized program to meet your child's reading goals. Most students work at home guided by a Gemm professional. If you are local however, we offer services at our learning centers in Westchester, NY or Fairfield County, CT.
