Do any of these describe you or your K-12 child?
Reading speed or comprehension difficulty
Problems following multi-step directions
Takes a long time over homework
These diverse issues generally share a common cause, namely cognitive skill gaps -- in processing, memory, or attention -- that undermine language and reading.
The merits of brain training programs
Cognitive Skills Can Improve
Just like physical muscle skills, cognitive skills will respond to exercise, meaning that learning is not fixed, learning difficulties are not hardwired. This is brain plasticity, the ability of the brain to rewire. Because the brain is plastic, the window to a higher level of learning is open at any age.
Fast ForWord Strengthens Cognitive Skills
Fast ForWord uses proven neuroscience and sophisticated computer algorithms to isolate and strengthen the processing, memory and focus skills required for reading and learning success. Using fMRIs to track brain activity before and after Fast ForWord, scientists so far have seen new neural activity in every case. This activity represents new cognitive ability.
Improved Cognitive Skills Unlock Potential
Improved processing and memory skills translate into easier, more automatic reading, more focused and accurate listening, and improved confidence. On average, students experience 1-2 grades of gain in 2-3 months.
Why Fast ForWord?
Fast Results
Fast ForWord is like surgery for a broken bone, where tutoring is physical therapy. Sometimes tutoring is fine, but most often it is better to fix the break, removing the impediment to learning. When cognitive gaps are closed, all kinds of new learning growth is not only possible, it is highly likely. Almost all of our students see gains in just a few months, many see gains in just a few weeks.
Proven Effective
Fast ForWord is the result of a collaboration of four world renowned neuroscientists over a thirty year period. Its results are backed by over 200 scientific trials and 700 white papers. Since its launch, Fast ForWord has helped over one million students. It stands tall in the world of educational software.
Enduring Gains
Fast ForWord creates new neural pathways that integrate into learning and thinking, becoming part of how the brain functions each day. Hence the gains will endure. In fact, parents report that progress well after Gemm Learning. This is because once fundamental skills improve, delayed development in higher level skills can start, often in an accelerated, catch up manner.

How It Works
Fast ForWord is a series of programs in two phases. The first phase exercises underlying processing and memory skills, using adaptive algorithms that respond to every click, creating the intensity required to rewire learning. Most students then move to the Fast ForWord reading series, which builds reading speed and comprehension, taking advantage of the student's new cognitive abilities.
How the science of Fast ForWord works
Why Gemm Learning?
As the largest at home provider of Fast ForWord in North America, we believe our students experience above average outcomes, due to the guidance of our well-trained, professional staff; our ability to motivate students (with our virtual rewards website, Gemm City); our sophisticated parent support resources; and our unmatched experience in developing effective protocols to meet each student's unique needs.
About Our Service
Most students work five days a week, 30 minutes a day protocol, for 3-6 months. Your service starts with an assessment and a call from your Gemm professional, followed by regular check in calls and weekly reports. We will be your protocol manager, advisor, mentor and cheerleader.
Service features
All students start with a program that builds underlying cognitive skills -- Fast ForWord Language or Fast ForWord Literacy -- before moving to the reading series.
