Fast ForWord For Elementary School Children

Fast ForWord is a suite of programs that includes elementary software in two sequential steps: first, Fast ForWord Language (followed sometimes by Language to Reading) to strengthen fundamental cognitive skills required for reading, and then Fast ForWord Reading Levels 1 and 2, to convert these improved cognitive abilities into efficient and effective reading skills. The program requires 30 minutes a day, five days a week for 3-6 months.

While Fast ForWord is installed on your home computer, it behaves like online elementary software using automatic uploads to Gemm Learning after every session via the Internet, enabling our professionals to provide consistent remote oversight.

Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Students in the first two years of elementary school -- grades K to 1 -- complete Fast ForWord Language and Fast ForWord Reading Prep as shown here. Fast ForWord Language Basics may also be used if a student’s language and cognitive development indicates a need to develop processing, computer mouse and shape recognition skills.

Elementary Grades 1 to 4

Most students will complete both cognitive software programs, Fast ForWord Language and Fast ForWord Language to Reading, and then follow up with the appropriate reading programs, namely Fast ForWord Reading Level 1, Fast ForWord Reading Level 2 and/or Fast ForWord Reading Level 3 as shown here. Reading Level 1 and 2 approximately correlate to 1st and 2nd grade reading level, while Reading 3 ends at a late 4th grade level.

Early Literacy Skills
Fast ForWord Language Basics is targeted to young children, four to seven years old. It uses fun activities to develop the basic skills necessary for language and reading development. It is an excellent tool for early literacy development. As a precursor to our Fast ForWord Language program it also enhances a young student’s ability to become familiar with computer skills and techniques.

Make the Connection from Sounds to Letters
Fast ForWord Language to Reading emphasizes the link between spoken and written language to guide students to become proficient grade level readers. It builds on the exercises in Fast ForWord Language, adding complexity and has new exercises that work on sight words, visual processing and reading comprehension. While Fast ForWord Language builds cognitive skills to the natural language speed level required for reading and learning, Fast ForWord Language to Reading pushes these skills to their biological limit.

Fast ForWord Reading Readiness

Fast ForWord Reading Prep (or Readiness) builds pre-reading skills, with a focus on phonemic awareness, phonological awareness and the alphabetic principle. It is designed for early literacy development, ages 4-6, helping students who are having trouble moving from the spoken word to the written word.

Fast ForWord Reading Level 1

Fast ForWord Reading Level 1 builds critical early elementary reading skills, with a focus on phonemic awareness, early decoding skills, appreciation of print, and motivation for reading. Its main focus is reading fluency, with exercises that build vocabulary, phonological awareness, sight words, spelling and language structure. It also has sentence completion and other more analytical exercises that develop early reading comprehension skills.

Fast ForWord Reading Level 2

Fast ForWord Reading Level 2 consolidates early reading skills with a focus on applying phonics and decoding strategies. It improves word reading and comprehension for easily decodable words and high frequency words. As the cognitive skills of memory, attention, processing, and sequencing are further developed, your child will gain a better understanding of the rules for reading comprehension.

Fast ForWord Reading Level 3

Fast ForWord Reading Level 3 takes elementary educational software, particularly reading aspects, to the next level. It is a challenging program that builds reading comprehension and fluency. While it uses elementary age vocabulary, and continues work on recognition of word sounds, word forms, and spelling conventions, this program provides the transition to higher level sentence and paragraph comprehension exercises that develop the critical thinking skills required for reading comprehension.
