The first progam, Fast ForWord Literacy (followed sometimes by Literacy Advanced) works on the cognitive impedients to reading and learning -- processing, memory and attention skills. Then, Fast ForWord Reading Levels 3, 4 and/or 5 accelerate reading fluency and comprehension, using a wide variety of reading exercises to convert these improved cognitive abilities into efficient and effective reading skills. The program requires 30 minutes a day, five days a week. For most middle and high school students the software programs take 3-5 months to complete.

Many Reading 3 exercises present analytical tasks that must be completed while reading, helping train the student to think while reading, an essential skill for reading comprehension.
