Learning Disabilities Reading Software

At Home Program For Dyslexia and Reading Difficulties

Studies show that fully 88% of reading difficulties stem from an underlying cognitive weakness such as slow auditory processing, weak memory or sequencing skills. These difficulties vary in severity, the more severe cases being described as a learning disability or dyslexia.

Learning disabilities and dyslexia No matter how severe, any difficulty at all in reading for a child is frustrating, and to some extent, humiliating when you are forced to read out loud to a parent or class. There is so much pressure on a child to be a good reader -- parental anxiety, teacher frustration, peer pressure -- that any difficulty in reading feeds directly into self esteem and confidence.

Therefore, if your child is struggling with reading -- early fluency difficulties, reading comprehension difficulties at a later age, or even the classic warning sign of reading difficulty ahead, i.e., an unwillingness to read -- you may want to consider action.

Meanwhile, educators, tutors and parents focus on coping strategies, instruction to help children work around these issues, leaving the underlying cognitive issues causing these difficulties untouched. Fast ForWord software, our reading program, is the only widely distributed software that tackles reading problems by first treating the underlying cognitive issues, before moving then to reading fundamentals and comprehension exercises.

Unique Reading Program

Our program tackles learning disabilities related to reading or dyslexia in three phases:

  1. Almost 40% of 4th graders do not have fluent reading fundamentals, a weakness that leads directly to reading difficulty, disappointing grades and homework frustration in middle and high school. Our program starts out by seeking to remove the cognitive impediments to reading, enabling a more natural and comfortable reading style.

  2. Dyslexia disability
  3. Then, your child will transition to exercises in the Fast ForWord reading series that convert these new cognitive abilities into reading fluency, by teaching decoding fundamentals -- including vocabulary, spelling and language structure.

  4. The final phase is high level reading comprehension and thinking. Our software takes a multiple tiered approach here with analytical and other exercises that train the student to think while reading.

Every child is different and so the amount of time spent at each stage of this course varies. Outcomes also vary, being somewhat related to how closely our program matches your child's learning disability profile. Our consultants will typically be able to help set appropriate expectations before program commencement.

Program Details

Fast ForWord works on fundamentals by strengthening the auditory processing skills needed for phonological awareness, and the working memory, attention stamina and sequencing skills required for efficient decoding. Younger children exercise these skills in Fast ForWord Language while 4th graders and older work on Fast ForWord Literacy, the same exercises but with more age appropriate graphics.

Children of all ages then move the Fast ForWord Reading, a series of reading programs that start out with exercises that develop reading fundamentals such as eye tracking, spelling, vocabulary, sentence syntax and language structure.

Dyslexia reading disability

The primary goals of our reading program are efficient decoding so that your child can enjoy reading for longer periods and accurate reading comprehension.
Reading comprehension

The ultimate reading skill is reading comprehension with metacognition, the ability to think critically and adjust while reading. This is an essential skill for academic success in high school, that will not develop fully when reading is inefficient.
