"We are ending up with
kids in our upper-level
math courses who do not
know how to add,
subtract or divide
unless they use a
calculator and are
lost when it comes to
fractions. We are
constantly having
to back-track to
teach skills students
should have
learned years ago."

Does Your Child Have a Math Problem?
An inability to develop automaticity in elementary math facts or to absorb basic math concepts is sometimes described as dyscalculia, dyslexia for math. For many children, math is the first real challenge to their learning mechanism. Number sense requires a number of cognitive abilities to function at a high level.
A mind that is occupied with laborious calculation of basic math facts will struggle to absorb higher level math concepts. Math fact automaticity is an essential math skill, as are cognitive skills such as working memory and sequencing.
Our Math Programs
We offer two tutoring service supported program choices at our CT and NY learning centers: Math Facts which works on math fact fluency only, and Math Fact Fundamentals which takes a broader cognitive approach to math difficulties.
Gemm Math Facts
We build math fact fluency and automaticity with this 12-15 minute a day math tutoring software program, 3-4 times a week for 2-4 months depending on your child's starting point and your goals. We use FASTT Math software, at our Westchester, NY and CT learning centers or at home anyware in the US with remote tutor oversight. This program is for 2nd to 6th graders mainly. Children start with addition, subtraction, multiplication or division as needed.

Gemm Math Fact Fundamentals
Our fundamentals math help program goes beyond automaticity to provide dyscalculia help. The program aims to develop number sense and an ability to learn new math concepts. We combine the cognitive building power of Fast ForWord software with the adaptive and rigorous math fact exercises of FASTT Math.
Recent U.S. Department of Education report to White House stated that math fluency is required for algebra. The report details findings that math fluency is lacking in our schools, partly due to movement in core curriculum away from dwelling on math facts.
