How We Motivate Students!

Our Whole Family Service

Apart from bringing the cost of Fast ForWord way down for families working at home, the main innovation of Gemm Learning as a Fast ForWord software service provider has been our Whole Family Service approach. Our starting point was: "What can we do to make the daily ritual convenient for families?"

Part of the answer lies in taking support services to a different level, which we have done with My Gemm, but student motivation is also key. If the student enjoys the program, attendance is higher and this leads directly to better outcomes. With this in mind, we have developed Gemm City, our student rewards website that helps bring an in-center feel right into your home.

Students enjoy their time with us in large part due to effort we put into creating a motivational environment, which boils down to prizes, prizes, prizes! All this happens at our rewards website, Gemm City -- check out the front page at www.gemmcity.com.

Students got to Gemm City to spend their well-earned points from doing Fast ForWord.   We have virtual prizes -- adopt a pet, donations, virtual rooms, auctions, sweepstakes, badges and virtual room competitions -- and hundreds of actual prizes that can be sent to your home.

Students have their own page and five virtual rooms to build and furnish. Plus they access to the entire site, to the raffles for large prizes, auctions, and competitions. Points for spending are updated regularly based on their effort. There are also virtual badges -- gems of course! -- and other rewards to be had along the way. If your child chooses merchandise -- electronics, sports, clothing, much more -- the items are shipped directly to your home.

Recognition of Success:  In center we provide tokens for meeting daily goals, stickers and other "instant prizes" for younger ones.  All students, home or in center, are sent Completion Certificates at milestones, designed to make Gemm a fun part of your child's day.

Engaging Software: Children generally find Fast ForWord and FASTT Math software engaging and fun to use. Both have a cool, video-game feel, both are adaptive meaning children are able to work at their own pace without fear of frustration, and both have in-built rewards to sustain student interest.

My Gemm, the service. We are proud of our passionate and nurturing tutors and our easy-start, willing-to-move-mountains Fast ForWord based home service.   We encourage our parents think of us as "My Gemm." It's a two-pronged approach: motivational for our students and supportive and report-intensive for parents.
