Support For Families Around Our Greenwich Center

Gemm Learning specializes in home based learning software with professional oversight throughout the US and Canada. However, families within driving distance of our Old Greenwich, CT center have special access to added service, namely:

• In person demo and/or reading assessment at our center. This can be scheduled by completing this request form.

• In center programs. Gemm Learning offers added services in center, reading and math programs that require a level of oversight not suited to at home use. Go to our Greenwich learning center page for more information.

• Once a week in center visits as a complimentary part of our standard at home service. Some parents appreciate the opportunity to come in to the center for a session once a week to make sure they are on the right track, to maintain student enthusiasm and/or to collect prizes.

Local families often start off by coming in for a demo or a free reading assessment -- this testing helps Gemm ascertain if we can help your child.

At Home Service

All students work with a dedicated Gemm Learning education professional who manages an individualized protocol -- using daily Internet uploads from the student's computer -- and interacts constantly to answer questions and provide encouragement. We back up this personal support with weekly progress reports, a virtual reward site called Gemm City, www.gemmcity.com, and a parent resources website called My Gemm, www.mygemm.com.

Reading Programs

We use the Fast ForWord family of reading programs to identify and treat the underlying cognitive issues that make reading difficult, followed up by exercises that develop age appropriate reading skills. This program helps reading difficulties at all ages, K-12 through adult.

Programs For Dyslexia and Auditory Processing Disorder

Fast ForWord is a unique treatment that is able to access and strengthen the processing skills that cause most dyslexia cases and auditory processing disorder. For dyslexia cases we start with cognitive exercises that target the underlying processing difficulties followed by a series of reading exercises that build reading fundamentals then higher level comprehension skills.

Our auditory processing programs work mainly on cognitive abilities to help with following directions, thinking while listening and language skills. We will in most cases follow up with reading exercises, as students with auditory processing disorder are at risk readers.

Autism and Asperger's

Our program is one of the fastest growing autism and Aspergers interventions in North America today. A number of our in center students are on the autism spectrum. These students prosper from the learning environment and the in person professional oversight. Where an in center routine is not possible, a once a week visit to our center can be helpful.

Learning Frustration, Homework Skills and Grades

A great deal of student frustration comes from a feeling that they are not living up to their potential. Our learning programs work on all aspects of learning (think of it as brain fitness) aiming to exercise and, where possible, close the cognitive skill gaps that may be causing the learning inefficiency.

Prep For Test Prep Program

Our home based test prep program is a one-two punch that builds the underlying cognitive and reading skills required to do well on the test, combined with 6-minutes-a-day lessons that are sent by email in a question format to learn test content and strategy in a steady, drip feed format that is more likely to stick.

Focus and Organization Program

BrainWare Safari uses sensory integration exercises to improve organization and a wide variety of exercises to teach focus, building the cognitive skills required for attention stamina.
