Homeschool Interventions for ADHD
Homeschooling ADHD children requires patience and flexibility. Your ADHD child may find it difficult to stay on task for extended periods, may not engage with traditional teaching or materials, may be easily distracted by toys, pets, and siblings, and may have difficulty managing frustration and handling setbacks.
In addition to slow progress, teaching a child with ADHD can strain the parent-child relationship. Power struggles and resistance to authority can make homeschooling ADHD children stressful.
Address the ADHD
Instead of focusing only on specialized curriculum for ADHD children, we recommend using some of the homeschool day to remediate the ADHD, to reduce or eliminate ADHD symptoms.
Improved focus and self-regulation will have long-term, life-changing impacts for your child as a homeschooler and for you as the teacher.
Gemm Learning provides homeschool interventions for ADHD. Our homeschool families simply include us in their daily routine as follows:
- Regular content by subject – using short lessons, with multi-sensory and movement-based learning techniques, and
- 30 minutes/day of Gemm Learning cognitive and attention training for 6 months.
Our interventions are an investment in your child’s future that can have a profound impact over a lifetime. Almost all families report improved focus as an outcome.
“He is now attentive in [class]. He usually needed a personal invitation to listen. 🙂 I had to stop his reading curriculum because he could no longer comprehend anything he read. It was like he hit a wall. I can now give him anything on the fifth grade reading level and his comprehension is amazing!!! … He is thoroughly enjoying novels now and he can always answer the comprehension questions. The fact that he has the stamina for sitting and reading for hours is amazing! This is such a dramatic change!”

How Our Service Works
Gemm Learning has a “virtual learning center” approach.
No Parent Training or Tech Skills Required
Our ADHD homeschool curriculum is online. As a parent, your role is to create a schedule for your child and encourage participation. Gemm Learning does the rest. We manage the daily assignments remotely. Your child just logs in and starts.
Students Work At Their Own Pace
Fast ForWord aims to engage children with ADHD by incorporating a computer-game feel and adapting to their progress. It advances with correct answers and retreats with three consecutive wrong answers.
Homeschooling ADHD children often involves a lot of parents hovering, especially if they are working on software. Our program doesn’t require that. The adaptivity causes less frustration; your child will not get stuck.
Comprehensive Support
We create an individualized protocol for your child, then monitor daily, check in regularly, and send weekly reports.
Our dashboard gives us extensive reporting on every session, including errors and effort levels. If we see an issue, we will tweak the protocol and/or get in touch. Your weekly report summary will provide similar detail.
Clients also have access to our client help site called My Gemm, and can call their program manager at any time for any reason. More on our service and support here
