Education Specialist

Background/Education: B.S. from the University of Texas at Austin in applied learning and development with a specialization in reading. Holds additional certifications in gifted and talented, bilingual, ESL, and ESOL instruction. Spent nine years as a classroom educator, including time as a grade level team leader and school writing-vertical chair.

More about me: I’ve lived and worked in Mexico, Africa, and South America. I instructed adult, child, and infant CPR and first aid and Basic Training courses while with the Red Cross. I will finish a 500-800 page book in one day if it holds my interest. If it doesn’t, and it’s not something I have to read, I won’t finish the first chapter. Tigers, sharks, and whales fascinate me.

What I want to be when I grow up: A writer, though not one concerned with publishing or marketing her work. Just someone who loves to write and gets lost in the process. Or a camerawoman who documents sharks and other marine life close up, all over the world, like Andy Casagrande.

When I’m not at work: I’m focused on family and friends (this usually involves food), exercising, or listening to alternative music.
